I suppose to get a better idea of my vision for the blog, you will need to know just a little about myself!
Before I get to the present day, I am going to take you back to my junior high days, where I first started sports. I will admit, being athletic came naturally to me. I was (still am) competitive so that drove me to better physical goals. At this point in my life, I was just doing it because all of my friends were doing it. I didn’t really enjoy it. As a matter of fact, as soon as I graduated and was done with sports, I stopped working out for a very long time! I quickly gained weight in college, because I was eating terrible, (maybe some college parties), and not working out. Once I had an not-so-awesome beer gut, I got back to running! The only thing I changed in my diet, was consuming less alcohol. (Yes, I was that annoying girl who could consume a whole pizza and not gain a single pound, but I had all sorts of non-weight effects that I didn’t know about).
At the end of my college career at Texas A&M University, I was introduced to Crossfit by Coach Terrance Smith. I was terrified, but also intrigued! I had stayed away from weights, because I didn’t want to be “bulky”, but I was honestly intimidated and uneducated about the concept. Luckily, this smart and patient Coach at the time, who I now consider a GREAT friend, patiently trained and pushed me along this new fitness journey! This is where I was also introduced to the Paleo Diet.
I kinda-sorta stuck to this diet from 2012 till about 2015, and it helped a lot. But, I was still maintaining really unhealthy habits, and I couldn’t out run or lift these negative effects! I found myself drinking 3-4 cups of coffee a day, crashing at 3 pm, and then fighting to keep my eye-lids open on the 5 o’clock drive home! I also noticed that something crazy was going on with my gut, I could remember that I would be so hungry when I first woke up that I would have stomach pains. I no longer came close to this and knew that my metabolism and body was out of whack! I was then introduced to the Whole 30 program and it has changed my life!
I’m not hear to promote the Whole 30, but I would like to acknowledge it, because this is when my eyes were truly opened and I became enlightened about the effects food have on your overall health. Since then, I have been experimenting with new and better ways to LIVE and so eager to share my experiences with you!
P.S. If you are ever traveling through the College Station area, please go visit my friends new box: Sawed-Off Crossfit. You will not be disappointed, he’s one of the good ones!
